As a consequence of the increased life expectancy of people with disabilities,
more aging carers are likely to be outlived by their children with disabilities
than in previous generations.

The state relies heavily on the care that the older parents provide.

However, many of these families cannot continue to care for much longer,
and are asking...

what next?

These documentaries explore the lives of five families in Melbourne, Australia.

In each family aging parents recognise that they will soon be unable to take proper care of their child with an intellectual disability.
At time of production there was no clear options available to the families to enable planning for the future.
